Philippine Scouts Heritage Society

Insight

At its peak, nearly 36,000 men served in the U.S. Army’s Philippine Scouts. As they pass away, they’re being forgotten, and the one website preserving their legacy was hijacked and disabled.

Idea

Recreate and modernize the website into a living memorial—a digital home for stories, photos, and records of the Philippine Scouts to preserve and honor their service.

Features

  • Fresh look and feel, including new graphics and colorized B&W photography (yes, that I colored in Photoshop)

  • Simplified menu

  • New content and articles that I wrote regarding Philippine Scout history

  • Example: Saved by an Angel: The Rescue of the 12th Quartermaster (PS) Regimental Colors

  • Web-based membership application

  • Complete, searchable U.S. Army rosters from 1945 as well as rosters from individual Philippine Scout units

About the organization

The Philippine Scouts Heritage Society is a non-profit group that honors and remembers the Philippine Scouts (P.S.), a U.S. Army organization that served from 1901-1949. The units designated P.S. consisted of Filipino enlistedmen as well as Filipino and American officers. All units were based solely in the Philippines. The Society’s mission is to preserve their legacy for future generations.

Awards

  • 2nd Place, Tempo Awards, Chicago Association of Direct Marketing, Best Branded Website

Results

Relaunched the website on April 9, 2020, the 78th Anniversary of the Fall of the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines during WWII.

  • After 9 months:

    • 4K+ unique visitors across 61 countries

    • 35.6K impressions

    • Ranked #4 in Google Searches for “Philippine Scouts” (today it is #2)
